“I believe progressive leadership focused on gun violence prevention, juvenile justice and bail reform, diverting low level, poor, and mentally ill non-violent offenders out of our dangerously overcrowded jails, and wraparound services for victims of familial and sexual violence, are all consistent with public safety. With the finite resources we have available to keep our communities safe, we must be more progressive and proactive. We must blanket victims of crime with the support and resources they need, and we must focus on keeping the most dangerous offenders away from our most vulnerable populations. A shift in thinking is one aspect of necessary change to keep our communities safer by correctly deciding who merely needs help and stability, versus those who need to be taken out of the community to keep our families and children safe. “Please join me as I take these steps to ensure real and lasting safety for your family and all of the community.”
